Poetry 2012 Longlist, Varsha Pandit
Dream Island
Far far away across the seas lies a beautiful island
No more tears – here lies my magic wand, my mind
Forget everything for I am on a flight towards the charmed island
I am in the space inhaling the sweet scent of the land
I take a deep breath – and lo! – I am on my breathtaking island
Beautiful birds fly across the sky
The air is sweet and fragrant
As I inhale , the whole world is encapsulated in my mind’s sky
Here I go! Go there again and again before my eyes are opened
Lie there on the sweet green grass in a serene world
Lie there and time is frozen
I open my eyes return to reality
Where the clock ticks incessantly
Far far away across the seas lies a beautiful island
No more tears – here lies my magic wand, my mind
Forget everything for I am on a flight towards the charmed island
I am in the space inhaling the sweet scent of the land
I take a deep breath – and lo! – I am on my breathtaking island
Beautiful birds fly across the sky
The air is sweet and fragrant
As I inhale , the whole world is encapsulated in my mind’s sky
Here I go! Go there again and again before my eyes are opened
Lie there on the sweet green grass in a serene world
Lie there and time is frozen
I open my eyes return to reality
Where the clock ticks incessantly

Moment of Madness
( Urge )
Before my lips touched to kiss you -
You were a stranger who came close enough to feel the warmth of my breath`
My imaginary world of love just let you intrude; and my faith around you got glued`.
My imaginary world of love just let you intrude; and my faith around you got glued`.
The pulse of my love beat... My destiny calling the soul mate to meet;
When you hugged me - i wish - you forget to leave me;
When you hugged me - i wish - you forget to leave me;
I surrender my body n soul but it was fair in love as whole ;
Loving you - i felt to get a second life,Where you were mine n i was your sweet Valentine .
Loving you - i felt to get a second life,Where you were mine n i was your sweet Valentine .
You don't have to move heaven n earth - You know love is what i do to you .
So after so many years n wit of loving cheers-When you moved on never to meet again;
I know you were not in your senses - when you said; "All was in Moment of Madness"
( Passion)
I found thousand reason not to believe ;In the loving season you found reasons to leave.
Love is so innocent to presume love a forever aim-When you innovate new ways to love the same .
The world i saw with You the moment shared with you-I wish i could finish what i started only with you .
So close so true and one day i couldn't see you-
So close so true and one day i couldn't see you-
I tried hard to rescue my love; ask - the winter, summer, rain n whoever the witness..
As for you it was all Moment of Madness...
As for you it was all Moment of Madness...
( Commitment )
Keeping the Love alive in "hue"-
With or without you .
With or without you .
If could go back in my past-
I will still love you .. because When i loved- You were You.
I will still love you .. because When i loved- You were You.
True love which you couldn't feel n see-Remember there’s no second me .
Love is so innocent to forgive with no vengeance- because-
I still love you and You loved me once.
Love is so innocent to forgive with no vengeance- because-
I still love you and You loved me once.
So, Miss me as I Miss you –
My loving meanness In the Moment of Madness.
My loving meanness In the Moment of Madness.
Poetry 2012 Longlist, Snehal Sharma
Rehab of Everyday
I hang my shoes and sit down to play
you tell me now if I'm old
and if they'll let me get away?
you tell me now if I'm old
and if they'll let me get away?
My moments, my dreams, all insipid it seems,
I turn to run away from my being
I turn to run away from my being
To be pure like a smile,
to be sure like a child,
to run towards my very own sun,
to stop trying and be someone
to be sure like a child,
to run towards my very own sun,
to stop trying and be someone
To hold and not pose, to sing not an old prose
to fly out beyond the sky, to sketch my own lullaby
to fly out beyond the sky, to sketch my own lullaby
I hang out my soul,to leave it to dry
while I enjoy the stroll…
while I enjoy the stroll…
deep down into my being,
to stop and ponder the things I'm seeing,
to shed a tear on that which hurts,
to laugh and cheer my only life,
to dance on the music that's me and I...
to stop and ponder the things I'm seeing,
to shed a tear on that which hurts,
to laugh and cheer my only life,
to dance on the music that's me and I...
I left out a part of me tonight
to hang in silence before it sighs
to hang in silence before it sighs
I run along the longest demure
of wanting to live my life
while I'm still sure...
of wanting to live my life
while I'm still sure...

That Beautiful Woman
Every head turned as she passed by,
And every young man visualized her in his eye.
All the beautiful flowers bowed in shame,
Before that stunningly attractive dame.
Seemingly oblivious of those awestruck stares,
She tossed about her lovely hair.
Even as she flitted on to her destination,
The lady whose beauty deserved a standing ovation.
All of a sudden she stopped in her tracks,
And everything became silent, not a sound, not a crack.
With hands and her eyes she gestured to the people pale,
Till one of them asked her to speak, sure to hear a nightingale.
It was then she sprung upon them a great shock,
She opened her mouth; not a sound, a sigh, a mock?
Echoing the silence around was her face,
Mute? The superficial glances did fade
Who has time to look within?
Oh! wicked fate
Every head turned as she passed by,
And every young man visualized her in his eye.
All the beautiful flowers bowed in shame,
Before that stunningly attractive dame.
Seemingly oblivious of those awestruck stares,
She tossed about her lovely hair.
Even as she flitted on to her destination,

The Poem
It was in those locks
That his heart first faced the blocks
It’s with those eyes piercing and dark
That he saw his attraction becoming stark
It was in those locks
That his heart first faced the blocks
It’s with those eyes piercing and dark
That he saw his attraction becoming stark
It wasn’t what she read,
But the gesture instead
That caused the ignition
And led him into her prison
But the gesture instead
That caused the ignition
And led him into her prison
Within her mysteries
She had tagged along some miseries
He was not to know them now
But they were soon to surface and how
She had tagged along some miseries
He was not to know them now
But they were soon to surface and how
But for him what mattered was today
He had met his life line no other day
She had held him with her gaze
He had held her for the chase
He had met his life line no other day
She had held him with her gaze
He had held her for the chase
Both were high on spirits
And listing each other’s merits
They both indeed knew it then
That they would marry and when
And listing each other’s merits
They both indeed knew it then
That they would marry and when

A Pinch of Past in The Soup of Present
Step by Step we travelled miles,
A journey which seemed so long, took just a while
We shared our likes, our choices and our dislikes
But now the time has changed don’t know how and don’t know why
When I know that I am intentionally letting you go,
And by no means I have a heart to say Adios’
When it pains , as acute as it can get
My heart trembles and My eyes are wet
I cry, I pine, wishing I would have met
And the pain increases.. as acute as it can get
When I know it’s nothing which could bring you back
Please think of an idea - Wise or Wack
Your spell is overwhelming, impossible to crack
And I think of something magical to get you back
O yeah !! Crying at this hour is of no use
“Your” thoughts are enough to keep me amused
And when I saw these messages, these mails when I peruse
I realize you are gone and my heart asks my woos
Step by Step we travelled miles,
A journey which seemed so long, took just a while
We shared our likes, our choices and our dislikes
But now the time has changed don’t know how and don’t know why
When I know that I am intentionally letting you go,

A Brief Tale
The winds of success touch and go
like a wind that just pass by, so
a nice sense can be felt so.
like a wind that just pass by, so
a nice sense can be felt so.
It's needs to be as a guest for ever
but not as a passing clouds that shower
It should not be seasonal but a perennial
that flows always and ever like a super power.
but not as a passing clouds that shower
It should not be seasonal but a perennial
that flows always and ever like a super power.
The winds of success bring a lot of inspiration
which makes to know our capacity and perfection
All this leads to a world of rejoicing and recreation.
which makes to know our capacity and perfection
All this leads to a world of rejoicing and recreation.
The winds that sweep around us is chill and cool
the success sense of winds lead our feel and drill
the process of strength and power lead our will and miles.
the success sense of winds lead our feel and drill
the process of strength and power lead our will and miles.
The effect of success winds or a little shower of success
makes us drench like a bath in a shower.
makes us drench like a bath in a shower.
This is a brief tale about a shower in a success winds.

post-modern viewz
notebooks, pencils, paper-pads,
oh my brother, what a fad!
rockets, missiles, air-guns, tanks,
oh my muppet, what tall hunks!
rapid risin', speedy fall,
uh...uh matey, what a ball!
chuck it, rummage, shock 'n drawl,
boyz r boyz, but iz dat all?
ragin', firin', rantin' spats,
nice knowin' they are brats!
blotch of blood with gory sights,
all pale down in single nights!
creakin', crawlin', rottin' dawn,
none around, coz we are gone!

Similes in Pain
A spider under a rug,
like a blind man’s world.
A rat inside its hole,
like a refugee in a terror struck nation.
A fish caught in a net,
like debt-ridden citizens.
Animals in the zoo,
like an abducted child’s condition.
A pig up for slaughter,
like a diseased patient on his death bed.
Street dogs wandering around the town,
like revolutionaries battling in the jungles.
A wide ranged desert,
like a malnourished sufferer’s stomach.
Soft toys placed in a gift shop,
like orphans craving for love.
Sheep grazing a drought land,
like beggars beseeching in every street.
A ‘touch me not’ plant placed in the corner of a garden,
like a rape victim’s plight.
Extreme thundering and floods,
like mother earth grieving for some relief.
A spider under a rug,
like a blind man’s world.
A rat inside its hole,
like a refugee in a terror struck nation.
A fish caught in a net,
like debt-ridden citizens.
Animals in the zoo,

Will You Be There?
When I get my moon,
Hope the moment comes soon,
And it’s time to enjoy the light,
Will you be there?
Why?
Just to share…
When my looks are awesome,
And people say ‘how come?’
Although I’m not sure,
Will you be there?
Why?
Just to confirm…
When life is a hard nut,
And inner world seems ‘best to shut’,
Smiles get habitual of lying,
Will you be there?
Why?
Just to listen…
When I get my moon,
Hope the moment comes soon,
And it’s time to enjoy the light,
Will you be there?
Why?
Just to share…
When my looks are awesome,
And people say ‘how come?’
Although I’m not sure,
Will you be there?
Why?
Just to confirm…
When life is a hard nut,
And inner world seems ‘best to shut’,
Smiles get habitual of lying,
Will you be there?
Why?
Just to listen…

The Lost Stranger
There are dreams that have been forged in the dusty recesses of his mind,
As a wandering stranger snores beneath the candescent moon.
Rising to the golden radiance shimmering through the sheers of his mind,
Slowly roused from the inebriation of the night.
And when the dreams of the night refuse to bid adieu,
He must know it is time to free the voice incarcerated in the gallows of his mind,
For this is the voice of a soul that pines for a listener,
As it croons a poignant tale of yearning.
Oh lost stranger! Listen to thee!
For when the sweet melody of the soul finally breaks free,
The glow of the darkness shall fade away into the brilliance of the day,
And the surreal hope spun by the night shall lead thy,
To the untraversed path of salvation and joy.

Wool ball tightly held
Like our daily entangled lives
Searching for the warmth
