Poetry 2015, Longlist Angel Jajo

One Last Time

Close the door
Come lie down beside me.
Let me give you all my love
Let me hold you close-
For one last time.
Don’t be more beautiful than who you are
Don’t be burdened with risk
For I won’t deny you my love.
Isn’t it so right?
For, when the morning comes
I’ll be lying alone in my bed
While you take comfort in his arms.
Your perfume still lingers between the sheets
Close the door
Come lie down beside me.
Let me give you all my love
Let me hold you close-
For one last time.
Don’t be more beautiful than who you are
Don’t be burdened with risk
For I won’t deny you my love.
Isn’t it so right?
For, when the morning comes
I’ll be lying alone in my bed
While you take comfort in his arms.
Your perfume still lingers between the sheets
Your presence still clouds my head,
I remember your voice,  whispering in my ear –
“Goodbye my love.”
And with every little step she takes, leads her farther and closer to her love.
