Poetry 2018 Longlist, Nitin Jain

Pure Love

The joy a mother feels when she first sees her new-born baby,
I felt the same the first time I saw you near me.

The joy a mother feels when she first hears her baby cry,
I felt the same the first time I heard you say Hi.
The joy a mother feels when she first holds her baby in her arm,
I felt the same the first time I held your palm.
The joy a mother feels when she gives her baby the first kiss,
I felt the same when we first kissed, I felt magical bliss.
The joy a mother feels when she first sees her baby stand,
I felt the same when I bent my knee and asked for your hand.
The joy a mother feels when she first sees her baby smile,
I felt the same when your dad walked you down the aisle.
The joy a mother feels when she sees her baby growing,
I felt the same every night, it would be dark and you would be glowing.
The joy a mother feels whenever she plays around with her child,
I felt the same whenever we played on bed, I would even go wild.
The joy a mother feels the first time she does a peekaboo,
I felt the same when you said a part of me was growing inside you.
The joy a mother feels when her baby is due,
I felt the same, I felt like I was pregnant too.
The joy a mother feels when she gives a new life from within,
I felt the same when our baby took birth, I felt as if you were born again.
I never imagined loving any other woman till the end,
But the moment our daughter was born, I had fallen in love all over again.
