 The Uninvited Guests

Cats were a permanent fixture at Ammamma's home. Often, they were treated to curd or milk. Ammamma shooed them by lifting her right hand and screaming.

It wasn't an angry shoo and I think the cats understood that and never really left. They just
wandered around. Sometimes we would find a cat near the pots and plants and sometimes
wandering near the dustbin. Once they even scratched a cousin on his face when he was
asleep.

Today as we observe five months of Ammamma’s passing, a cat came too -- growling.
