Poetry 2018 Longlist, Mauli Joshi

One Night Actor

That darkly delirious night
The travesty of her tears
A mere beginning of the portentous years
For the queen of the stage.
Her chest abounded with secrets
Emotions splurged from her eyes.
She followed Stanislavski in reel life
But opted for Brecht in real life.
The heart held a commotion
But the words captivated calmness.
He pulverized her, they thought
She’ll rise from the ashes, she knew.
She screamed, she cried
Louder than that night
Evocative scene permeated the veins
And the Queen bowed for one last time.
