Poetry 2017 Longlist Lavleen Kalra

Melancholy

Smothered by the kisses that were never taken,
Drenched in rain that never came
Why, oh why, do I not feel the love?
When it was around since the beginning.
Words were spoken, some kind, some harsh,
As the melancholy in my head replayed.
It seemed like, only a jiffy later,
I realized that I was the one to blame.
For I chose to disregard the love I had,
I chose to spark the pain.
Time went by and now I look back,
To all the tears that were shed,
To the sorrow that could've been shunned away.
Life did turn, lessons well learnt,
Just like they say, it's never too late.
