Poetry 2017 Longlist Bhawika Dimri

The Home is Now a Gloomy Place

The Aztec mountains,
The lush green bushes.
The ancient houses,
The classic trees.
Things are now have changed forever,
Once beautiful, now the grim of terror haunts the streets.
The Aztec mountains deformed,
The lush green bushes got the shade of red.
This is not the place I belong; the home is now a gloomy place.
And the humanity is at its brink,
Now the world is controlled by a new order.
the third religion at its rise,
No god loving, no god fearing people are left.
The ones which are left are the descendants of 'Satan',
Brutally murdering their own brethren.
Killing is a new hobby,
Religion and colour are the weapons of the descendants.
Filling heart with the never ending hate,
Once we all used to live in "heaven”, now "hell" have taken over the thrown.
This is not the place I belong; the home is now a gloomy place.
Scavengers hover the sky, searching for the dead meat.
Once, the scent of flowers used to refresh my mind,
Now, the stink of the dead all over the city.
This is not the place I belong; the home is now a "dead man's land".
People leaving, for some unscathed place to live,
Keeping their heart apart, going to some alien place for peace.
But, still I can't leave the place,
I once called "homeland"
whatever happens, it’ll still be mine because,
This is the place I used to belong, the home is still a "home" to me.
